Summary
One in a series of evenings and special screenings presented as part of The Museum of Television & Radio's 9th Annual Television Festival in Los Angeles. Presented with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the festival celebrates the excellence and diversity of American television, and is dedicated to television's creative community. Host Robert M. Batscha, president of The Museum of Television & Radio, welcomes the cast and the creative team from the highly acclaimed science fiction series, "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Batscha introduces executive producer Rick Berman, co-producer Peter Lauritson, head writer Michael Piller, and cast members Patrick Stewart, Wil Wheaton, LeVar Burton, and Brent Spiner. Following the screening of an episode not included in this program, the cast and creative team return to the stage to discuss the series and answer questions from the audience. Topics discussed include the question of whether gay or lesbian characters will be introduced in the program; the future of each of the characters; the budget of a typical episode; the possibility of a "Star Trek: The Next Generation" movie; the establishment of the series as a syndicated hit; future episodes; the process of putting a script together; and the legacy of the late creator of "Star Trek," Gene Roddenberry.
