MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO'S 9TH ANNUAL TELEVISION FESTIVAL IN LOS ANGELES, THE: THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW {LONG VERSION}
Summary
The final evening of The Museum of Television & Radio's 9th Annual Television Festival in Los Angeles. Presented with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the festival celebrates the excellence and diversity of American television, and is dedicated to television's creative community. Robert M. Batscha, president of The Museum of Television & Radio, welcomes the original creative team and cast members of the comedy series "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Batscha introduces cast members Edward Asner, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, and Betty White, as well as co-creator/producer/director James L. Brooks, co-creator/writer/producer Allan Burns, writer and producer Stan Daniels, writer/ producer/story editor David Davis, writers Bob Ellison and David Lloyd, director Jay Sandrich, producer Grant Tinker, writer and producer Ed Weinberger, executive script consultant Treva Silverman, and writer and story editor Lorenzo Music, who also performs the voice of Carleton the Doorman. Topics for the evening include the ways the characters were created and the show was cast; working with Ted Knight, Nancy Walker, and Mary Tyler Moore, who was unable to appear due to a death in her family; the "family atmosphere" on the show and how well the cast worked together despite their different acting backgrounds; issues that were difficult to include in television story lines during the show's era; and the episodes favored by each of the guests.
(The screening of the introduced "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" episodes which include: "The Lars Affair," (T:24577) "Chuckles Bites the Dust," (T:24578) and a clip from "Support Your Local Mother" (T:24580) are deleted. The episodes are part of the Museum's collection and may be viewed separately.)
