MYSTERY!: RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY, SERIES 4, EPISODE 3: RUMPOLE AND THE BLIND TASTING (TV)
Summary
One in this mystery anthology series. Host Vincent Price introduces this British series of legal dramas about eccentric, kind-hearted barrister, Horace Rumpole, who defends seemingly hopeless cases in London's main criminal court, the Old Bailey.
In this episode, Rumpole finds links between his defense of a man accused of theft and his visit to a high-class wine cellar for a blind tasting. When Rumpole successfully defends Mr. Timson, who was accused of stealing expensive silver items, he earns the undying respect of a young law graduate, Liz Probert. Determined to work under Rumpole, Ms. Probert gets the position because Ballard assumes that she is related to his personal idol, Cannon Probert. When Erskine-Brown suggests that Rumpole accompany him to a wine tasting competition at Martyn Vanberry's establishment, neither of them has any idea that Timson will be accused of stealing several cases of Vanberry's valuable vintage wines. But thanks to Rumpole's years of experience and his keen intuition, he proves to the jury that you cannot always trust what you see. He also uses such logic to explain to his wife that his relationship with Liz Probert is strictly professional. Price concludes with some biographical information on author John Mortimer.
