ABC NEWS: OUR WORLD: BETWEEN THE LINES: SUMMER
1972 {SUMMER OLYMPICS} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of retrospective news programs. This
program documents the turbulent and sometimes
incongruous events and trends that shaped the summer of
1972. The program analyzes such political events as the
summer's presidential primaries, the Watergate
break-in, the continuing Vietnam War and the
demonstrations against the conflict, and the "Black
September" terrorist murders at the Olympics in Munich.
Cultural events that are documented include The Rolling
Stones and Stevie Wonder concerts, the Rev. Billy
Graham's "Christian Woodstock," Explo '72, the athletic
prowess of Mark Spitz and Olga Korbut at the 1972
Summer Olympics, and the inceptions of Ms. magazine
and the television show M*A*S*H. The program includes
interviews with or clips of President Richard Nixon;
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. George McGovern
(D-S.D.); McGovern campaign convention manager Gary
Hart; assassinated U.S. Olympic wrestler David Berger;
