Summary

coverage of the attempted coup against Soviet President
Mikhail Gorbachev. In this hour, Patrick Greenlaw
summarizes the events of the preceding day in Moscow,
including the arrival of Gorbachev and the rumored
suicide of Minister of the Interior Boris Pugo.
Following reports from London and the U.S. State Dept.
about reaction to the failure of the coup, Eileen
O'Connor reports from Moscow on the huge rally taking
place outside the Russian Federation Building. Portions
of speeches made by Russian President Boris Yeltsin and
Ivan Silayev are interpreted live. Following the
special report, "CNN Daybreak" reviews the events in the
Soviet Union and concludes with a sports report by Mark
McKay and a national weather forecast by Valerie Voss.
