WALL STREET WEEK {WALL $TREET WEEK} WITH LOUIS RUKEYSER: THE OUTLOOK FOR ADVERTISING AND BROADCASTING (TV)
Summary
One in this series of stock market and financial analysis programs hosted by Louis Rukeyser. In this edition, Rukeyser and his guests discuss the appointment of Larry Lindsay to the Federal Reserve Board and the outlook for broadcasting and advertising. Rukeyser reviews the Dow Jones and the broader indices, then introduces the following guests: Frank Cappiello, president of an investment advisory firm; Louis Holland, partner in an investment counseling firm, and John Dessauer, an investment newletter publisher. Rukeyser begins with questions for Cappiello about Larry Lindsay's possible impact on the market and whether interest rates should be lowered or left alone. Rukeyser then asks Holland for his market forecast and for recommendations for stocks to buy that will make "hard cash." Dessauer is asked for his opinion on Holland's and Cappiello's statements as well as for his stock recommendation. Next, each guest answers a letter from a viewer on the following topics: whether hedge funds work; if Jennie Mae funds are a good investment; and whether airlines make good investments and employers. Rukeyser then discusses the current state of the broadcasting industry as an introduction to the next segment of the show, in which special guest Alan Gottesman, media analyst at Paine Webber, Inc., joins the group to discuss the state of and outlook for the broadcasting and advertising industries, in flux due to the increase of households with cable television and VCRs. Rukeyser, Cappiello, Holland, and Dessauer asks Gottesman questions about investing in advertising and broadcast network stock.
Cataloging of this program was made possible by Elizabeth B. Dater in honor of Louis Rukeyser, 2003.
