JOE FRANKLIN SHOW, THE: JOE FRANKLIN'S HOLLYWOOD MEMORIES {PREVIEW} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of talk shows hosted by Joe Franklin. On this program, Franklin forgoes his regular format to preview a series concept, "Joe Franklin's Hollywood Memories," a nostalgia program in which he reminisces about show business legends. Franklin shares with the viewer excerpts from his tremendous archive of still photos, film footage, recordings, and clips of his favorite interviews with the stars. The host presents early film footage of Bing Crosby singing "Auf Wiedersehn" and a clip from his 1976 interview with the crooner, who talks about his "rivalry" with Russ Columbo and his "Road" movies with Bob Hope. Franklin also offers a tribute to great screen comedians, highlights of which include the following: a 1928 film clip of Joe E. Brown; footage of Charlie Chaplin as the Little Tramp; in a film clip, Eddie Cantor sings "Makin' Whoopee!"; Franklin plays a recording of Cantor's radio theme song "I Love to Spend Each Sunday with You"; Joan Davis appears with Cantor in a film clip; and Milton Berle, in a clip from "The Joe Franklin Show," tells Franklin how he got the nickname "Uncle Miltie" and discusses his involvement in all aspects of the production of his television show.
