ON THE ISSUES: DOING THE RIGHT THING (TV)
Summary
The second season premiere of this series about the ethical questions businesses must face. In this program, George Fletcher, professor of law at Columbia University, moderates a panel composed of business leaders and academics, which acts as a fictional company confronted with situations where an employee's personal life conflicts with the best interests of the organization. Hypothetical situations involve the following: an employee who enters a confidential drug rehabilitation program; an employee who has political views that could jeopardize holding onto a new account; a romantic relationship which develops between an employee and a client; and a case where an employee's telling the truth to his employer may cause a close friend to go to jail. The panelists include the following: William J. Byron, S.J., professor at Georgetown University; Sophia Collier, president of Working Assets Capital Management; Gary Edwards, president of Ethics Resource Center; Raymond Gilmartin, chairman of Becton Dickinson & Co.; Linda A. Hill, Ph.D., associate professor at the Harvard Business School; Jerry Nachman, former editor of the New York Post; Barbara Reynolds, columnist for USA Today; P.J. O'Rourke, author and foreign affairs editor of Rolling Stone; Allen Rosenshine, chairman and CEO of BBDO Worldwide; Nadine Strossen, president of the American Civil Liberties Union; Barbara Ley Toffler, Ph.D., principal at Resources for Responsible Management; Maria Elena Torano, president and CEO of META; and Craig Weatherup, president and CEO of the Pepsi-Cola Company.
