Summary
One in this series of dramas that deals with the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of criminals. The first half of each episode concerns the police procedure that leads to the arrest of a suspect, while the second half covers the efforts of the district attorney to prosecute the case. In this episode, detectives Briscoe and Logan investigate the apparent suicide of an elderly Holocaust survivor. The dead woman's husband, David Steinmetz, claims to have assisted her in killing herself. However, the detectives learn that, before her death, Mrs. Steinmetz had made the horrifying discovery that her husband was really Jacub Skulman, one of the few Jews wanted for war crimes. A representative of the Justice Department arrives in Stone's office explaining that he wants to extradite Steinmetz to Poland so that he may be tried for crimes against humanity. Stone argues that Steinmetz must be tried for the murder of his wife first, though he knows that this may prevent him from ever being tried for his greater crimes. Commercials deleted.
