KNOTS LANDING: CELEBRATION (TV)
Summary
One in this night-time drama serial, spun off from the series "Dallas," about the residents of the small southern California community of Knots Landing. In this episode, singer Ciji Dunne endures a very bad day. As friends and associates prepare for a party honoring Ciji on the release of her album, Ciji is forced into several unpleasant confrontations in the hours before the big event. Highlights include the following: Ciji lets Gary Ewing sleep off a drinking binge at her apartment and later finds herself being threatened by Abby Cunningham when Abby turns up looking for the drunken Ewing and Ciji refuses to let her in; Laura Avery tells her husband Richard that their marriage is over, but he angrily blames Ciji, suggesting that she and Laura are having an affair; conniving Chip Roberts tells lovestruck Diana Fairgate he wants them to move to New York City together, though he clearly seemed ready to skip town without her; Abby calls her lawyer with concerns about the business consequences that may ensue from Gary's bender; Richard arrives home to find Laura and Ciji embracing, and -- in a fury -- throws Ciji out of the house; Karen is upset when daughter Diana tells her she loves Chip and will soon be leaving town with him; Kenny Ward tells his wife Ginger that he refuses to go to tonight's party because he will not grovel at Jeff Munson's feet, but Ginger warns him not to destroy his own career; Ciji returns home to find that Gary has disappeared, leaving only a thank-you note; Abby finds Richard at their restaurant/nightclub "Daniel," packing up Ciji's belongings, and he angrily informs her he's firing the singer after the party; Val gets an S.O.S. call from an incoherent Gary and goes out looking for him; Chip appears at Ciji's and attempts to insinuate himself back into her life, but she tells him she wants him to leave her alone or she'll expose his true, unsavory identity to everyone; Valene arrives at Ciji's looking for Gary and the two women get into an argument, which ends when Val accidentally pushes Ciji and the singer hits her head on the coffee table; guests arrive at Daniel for the party, but Ciji is missing; Val gets another cryptic call from Gary; Jeff asks Ginger to sing while everyone awaits Ciji's arrival; and a female body is seen lying in the dark surf at the beach.
