MTV NEWS FREE YOUR MIND SPECIAL: HATE ROCK (TV)
Summary
This special, hosted by Kurt Loder, focuses on the recent growth of neo-Nazi movements, such as the Aryan Nation and the skinheads, and some of the music that has feuled their fires. Highlights include: how, though the look of the various skinheads may be very similiar, their political views do vary; the major differences between Sharps, which are anti-racial skinheads, and the White Power skinheads, who believe in racial cleansing through violence; how in the 1960s, anti-racial skinhead groups began promoting different styles of music, such as the reggae-oriented Ska and the faster sounding Oi!; the similarities and differences between the neo-Nazis of today's society and those of the Nazi regime during the World War II era; how, despite the tearing down of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Germany did not fully unite due to the growing number of skinheads; why young people are drawn to the movement as a sign of rebellion against their families and government policies; the wide array of informational services in the United States that describe the skinhead movement and its beliefs; and the fact that in Orlando, Florida, the Grand Wizard of the Independent Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and a member of the Sharps, live on the same street and have had many run-ins with one another.
