CHICAGO HOPE: YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART (TV)
Summary
One in this series of medical dramas about the personal and professional lives of the staff of the state-of-the-art Chicago Hope Hospital and the ethical dilemmas they face. In this episode, a baby with no visible brain is brought to Chicago Hope and Dr. Phillip Watters has the baby put on life support; at the same time, another baby, who is in need of a heart transplant, is flown in because the brainless child happens to be a perfect donor match. Dr. Jeffrey Geiger knows he can save the sick baby with the transplant but needs permission to perform the operation. Phillip is the only doctor who demurs, contending that the brainless baby should remain on life support. The other doctors suspect that Phillip is putting religious practices in front of his duty as a medicine man, causing many of them, including Jeffrey, to question his ability as chief of staff. Meanwhile, Dr. Aaron Shutt shares an intimate moment with Dr. Antonovich and begins to think about her more than his patients, and Jeffrey realizes that his inner demons regarding his son are affecting his work in the operating room and his attitude in the hospital.
