TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {GLENN CLOSE, TIM ALLEN, BUDDY GUY} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include actress Glenn Close, actor/comedian Tim Allen, and blues singer Buddy Guy. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: announcer Ed McMahon's plans to host a daily edition of "Star Search"; the cable television Ace Awards nominations; preacher Oral Roberts asking for money from his congregation to fight the Devil; how President George Bush predicted the coup in Russia, but couldn't predict the recession; the Fox television network's announcement that it will run condom commercials; and a Harvard Medical School study about the rate of heart attacks in short men as compared to tall men. Next Carson recites his version of some classic nursery rhymes. Carson's first guest, Glenn Close, talks about the first time she met Carson, her work in the film "The Big Chill" and having Kevin Costner's character cut out of the movie, her upcoming film "Meeting Venus" in which she plays a Swedish opera diva, what it was like using a Swedish accent for the film (a clip from the film is then shown), the love scenes in "Fatal Attraction" compared to scenes in other films, what her parents' reactions were after they saw "Fatal Attraction," and asking her father (who is a doctor) for advice during the murder scenes. The next guest, Tim Allen, performs a stand-up comedy routine in which he jokes about being a Detroit native and having a passion for American cars, his grandmother always bringing over casseroles, his ethnic background being half Irish and half German, how men behave at the dinner table and in everyday life, his passion for shopping and buying tools, and taking shop class in high school. Allen then joins Carson and talks about why he is nervous to be on the show; his sitcom, "Home Improvement," grabbing enough ratings to break the top ten; the fact that comedians are not very good actors; whether he's handy around the house; and what it was like driving a Dodge Viper around Los Angeles with renowned chef Wolfgang Puck riding shotgun. The last guest is Buddy Guy, who sings "Damn Right I've Got the Blues." Includes commercials and promos.
