MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO, THE: 14TH ANNUAL WILLIAM S. PALEY TELEVISION FESTIVAL 1997: EZ STREETS, TAPE 2 OF 2 {LONG VERSION}

Summary

Continued from T:48248. Part two of two. One in a series of evenings and special screenings presented as part of The Museum of Television & Radio's William S. Paley Television Festival in Los Angeles. Held this year at the Directors Guild of America Theatre Complex, the festival celebrates the excellence and diversity of American television, and is dedicated to television's creative community. This evening honors the gripping, critically-acclaimed police drama, "EZ Streets." The panel consists of the following members of the "EZ Streets" creative team: cast members R.D. Call, John Finn, Jason Gedrick, Courtney Jacquin, Richard Portnow, Mike Starr, Saverio Guerra, Ken Olin, and Debrah Farentino; director of photography Ericson Core; producers Jeff King, Robert Moresco, and Deborah Rennard; co-executive producer Mark Harris; and creator, writer, director, and executive producer Paul Haggis. In part two, the second half of the pilot episode is screened, followed by comments from the panelists about various topics including: the way the program was developed and written; the process of choosing the right actors to portray the complex characters; and the experience of working on a show that stretches the limits of dramatic tension. Following these comments, the panelists answer questions from the audience concerning the following topics, among others: their relationships with the network and the studio; the way the creators acquired the cast they wanted, especially Rod Steiger for the pilot episode; the extent to which storylines were developed before the pilot went into production; the city where the story takes place; the way they think the show will fare on CBS considering its dark overtones; possible directions for the future of the series; the amount of rehearsal time and the number of takes invested in each scene; whether the directors change their styles and demeanor when a child is performing in a scene; the process that would be involved if the show changed networks or pulled itself from the air; and the way the production team was assembled.

(The tape includes the second half of the pilot episode. The episode is part of the Museum's collection and can also be viewed separately. See: T:47232.)
