NOTHING SACRED: SPEAKING IN TONGUES (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about Father Ray, an unconventional young priest at an inner-city church who struggles to balance his faith in God with the temptations and daily tribulations of life. In this episode, a teenager is hospitalized after police find him on a rooftop speaking in a strange language. Upon investigating the young man, Father Ray learns that the boy claims to have had a vision of the Blessed Virgin. Meanwhile, Father Eric, who must perform the Sunday mass with a bad back, meets his new accompanist, Margo, who is fresh out of rehabilitation. Also, Rachel befriends a student who is thinking of having sex with her boyfriend. At the hospital, Ray tells the teenager that he hardly believes in visions and disagrees with the doctor on the diagnosis of the teen's real problem. In the meantime, Rachel tries to distance herself from her new friend's quandry about sex, and Eric tries to determine whether his chemistry with Margo is spiritual or physical. When Ray hears the teenager praying and speaking in an obscure language, he wonders if the young man has studied religions. And later, a hospital janitor who is prone to visions permits the teenager to escape. Sensing the boy will return to the spot where he was found, Ray goes to the rooftop to intervene, despite his grave fear of heights. And as the program concludes, Margo speaks her mind before Eric can decipher his feelings for her. Includes commercials, promos, and a public service announcement.
