CUPID: A GREAT PERSONALITY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of romantic dramas about Trevor Hale, a man claiming to be the mythological Cupid, who must fix up one hundred couples on Earth before he can return home to Mount Olympus. In this episode, Trevor lies on Claire's living room couch discussing his relationship with his father, though no one is listening to him. Trevor says he's upset at how long it is taking him to make one hundred love connections. Meanwhile, a fan of Champ's Shakespeare in the Park performance wants to meet with him. At group, Mike reveals that he has finally placed a personal ad looking for love. Claire thinks people should discount personal beauty when searching for a partner. However, Trevor maintains that "beautiful people always end up with beautiful people." The guys then quiz an attractive group member, Yvonne, on whether she would date someone like Mike. Yvonne tells the group that she has always gone out with great-looking guys that thought of her only as a trophy. Yvonne wants to be appreciated for what's inside her. That night, Champ and Chris watch a movie before she wonders where their relationship is headed. He dodges the question, giving her a plastic ring from his Cracker Jacks box. Later, Trevor tries to help Yvonne craft a personal ad. Meanwhile, Nick, Mike, and Laurence go to The War Room, a chic club full of models. There, Nick flounders when hitting on women. Back at Tagerty's, Trevor and Yvonne meet Claire's friend and book editor Gene. Back at Claire's office, Gene tells her that he thinks Trevor is an intriguing character and wonders why she hasn't got to the second chapter of her book about him. Later, Yvonne shows Trevor the responses she has received to her ad. Together with Claire, they read through them, with all written -- as requested -- in haiku form. Eventually, Yvonne has her first date with a somewhat homely guy named Ken. She's hesitant at first, but Yvonne soon is enjoying herself. In fact, the date goes well enough that Ken asks Yvonne out again. Meanwhile, Chris observes Champ hitting on customers at Tagerty's. Back on the club scene, Mike begins flirting with Annette, a less-than-glamorous waitress. Working on her study of Trevor, Claire eventually finds herself having to talk with professional rival Dr. Ian Frechette about the Colony Institute, and whether he has any files from his time there. Ian reluctantly hands the files over, with Claire searching for any records indicating that Trevor stayed there under a different name. She finds one possibility. By the next day, Champ wonders if he should meet with his secret admirer or whether it would be a betrayal of Chris. At the same time, Yvonne is on date number six with Ken, but Trevor still doubts that the relationship will last. By that evening, Lance, one of Yvonne's handsome exes, appears to apologize for his past behavior, and try to get back in her life. Meanwhile, Mike gets up the courage to ask Annette on a date, but she reluctantly turns him down, admitting that she has a boyfriend. Ken then shows up at Tagerty's, telling Trevor that Yvonne has gone back to Lance. Later, after a little fight with Chris, Champ decides to meet his secret admirer. When a package arrives at their rendezvous spot containing a plastic ring, Champ realizes that Chris was testing him, and that he failed. Elsewhere, Yvonne finds herself back with Lance, and realizing too late that she had a much better time with Ken. Finally, after Trevor fails to match up as the Colony Institute member, Claire is inspired to restart her book on his exploits. Includes commercials.
