CUPID: HUNG JURY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of romantic dramas about Trevor Hale, a man claiming to be the mythological Cupid, who must fix up one hundred couples on Earth before he can return home to Mount Olympus. In this episode, Trevor argues about the meaning of Christmas with Claire. Trevor wants to celebrate with Claire but she already has plans to go to New York City to be with Alex. Meanwhile, an unhappy Champ is hired to play a street-corner Santa Claus for Chicago's Underprivileged Children's Fund. Then, a court bailiff forcibly summons Trevor, Claire and others on the sidewalk to immediate jury duty, with orders to replace a hung jury or face arrest. Once the jury is assembled, they are told that the judge is seeking a speedy verdict on the case of an albino defendant accused of setting up a holiday-based website to swindle people. Juror Theresa notes that the defendant must be guilty as he was found with a ticket to the Caymans on him.
Later, Theresa and another juror, a street musician named Shawn, seem to have eyes for each other. After the first jury vote, everyone votes guilty except for one person. Thus, the jurors are sequestered and forced to stay at a cheap motel, two to a room. There, Trevor tries to set Shawn up with Theresa, thinking men and women should share rooms. That night, Trevor tries to convince Clark -- who is not only the jury foreman but his roommate -- to be less stuffy and strict. The next day, the jurors want to know who voted not guilty, but Clark refuses to divulge. Then, Trevor speaks in favor of the defendant and afterward the jurors vote again, this time resulting in two not guilty votes. Eventually, the jurors pull up the defendant's website, yuletide.com, and find themselves touched by its sentiments. Soon, the vote is deadlocked at six votes for each side, though a claim for being a hung jury is thrown out. As Christmas Eve approaches, the jurors are not only sequestered but cut off from all phone contact. Claire thinks Trevor has purposely created a hung jury so that she can't leave for New York.
That night, Trevor tries to sleep in Claire's room, freaking her out. Meanwhile, Theresa and Clark start warming up to each other, finding a connection in art appreciation. Then, Clark and Theresa sneak out to visit St. Michael's Cathedral and do some last-minute Christmas shopping for fellow jurors. Theresa insists on finding some guitar strings for Shawn. However, Trevor suspects that Theresa is attracted to Clark, subsequently setting out to make Clark jealous of Shawn. Meanwhile, Claire is upset that she isn't spending the holiday with Alex. The next day, the heat is turned off in order to try and speed the jurors' decision. Soon, they realize that the defendant has never had a passport and thus all twelve jurors finally vote not guilty. Meanwhile, Champ's charity work nets a huge donation from a Swiss bank check handed over by a mysterious albino. That night, Theresa comes to Clark's house, surprised to see that he had purchased one of her paintings without even knowing that she was the artist. Soon, they are kissing, marking another triumph for Trevor. Finally, Claire regretfully spends the holiday alone, finding solace after Trevor sends her a card and music box, which he'd secretly watched her admire. Includes commercials.
