CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE {BING CROSBY, ELLA FITZGERALD} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/variety programs starring Carol Burnett. Guest Ella Fitzgerald begins the show by performing "Get Ready." In the first sketch, a group of inept bank robbers (Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner and guests Dick Martin and Dan Rowan) discuss the aftermath of a recent heist before getting interrupted by an annoying girl scout (Burnett). Guest Bing Crosby then takes the stage to sing "Flattery" with Burnett. In the next sketch, Burnett plays Peggy, a starstruck waitress at L.A.'s famous Brown Derby restaurant who gets the pleasure of serving Crosby -- until the "biggest star of them all" arrives, Bob Hope. Next, Burnett and Fitzgerald sing "I'll Never Fall in Love Again." In the following sketch, a wife (Burnett) struggles with her overly-forgetful husband (Martin) on their 15th anniversary. Then, the program offers a "salute" to Paramount Pictures, parodying the movies "Blue Angel" (with Burnett spoofing Marlene Dietrich's "Falling in Love Again") and "Samson and Delilah" (with Waggoner and Lawrence taking Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr's roles). Longtime Paramount star Crosby sits with Burnett to discuss his time with the studio. He introduces a take on the famous sleeping bag love scene from "For Whom the Bell Tolls," with Burnett and Rowan stepping in for Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper. Next, Crosby and Fitzgerald "warble" a few Oscar-winning Paramount songs, including "Moon River," "Buttons and Bows," "Would You Like to Swing on a Star," "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening," "Call me Irresponsible," and "Thanks for the Memories." Then, Burnett and Korman offer their take on Shelley Winters and Montgomery Clift's famous rowboat scene from "A Place in the Sun." Finally, Crosby performs a song about the Marx Brothers before Burnett, Lawrence, and Korman -- dressed as Groucho, Harpo, and Chico, respectively -- perform "We're Funny Men." Burnett ends the show with her trademark song, "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together." Commercials deleted.
