60 MINUTES {SADDAM'S BILLIONS, BRUCE CUTLER, REMEMBERING HARRY REASONER} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of news magazine programs. In the first segment, Steve Kroft reports on the network of wealth in the personal control of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Viewers learn that private investigator Jules Kroll has been hired by the Kuwaiti government to look into Hussein's assets, estimated at $11,000,000,000. Kroft interviews Kroll and goes to Geneva, Switzerland, to investigate business connections of Hussein and untangle the elaborate distribution of his money. In the second segment, Mike Wallace reports on Bruce Cutler, defense attorney for accused underworld leader John Gotti. Cutler's flamboyant courtroom tactics are known to his fellow lawyers as "Brucification" and have helped the attorney gain acquittals for his famous client on three separate occasions. Cutler talks to Wallace about his work, his belief in his clients, and what he terms giving "1000 percent" to his job. Wallace also speaks with Laura Brevetti, a former colleague of Cutler, and with Cutler's father Murray about the attorney's involvement with Gotti. Finally, Wallace reports that a federal trial judge recently disqualified Cutler as Gotti's attorney because the lawyer may be called to testify in future hearings. In the third segment, Morley Safer introduces Andy Rooney, who delivers a television memoir of his recently deceased "60 Minutes" colleague Harry Reasoner. Rooney shares his memories of Reasoner and shows clips of programs from the newsman's lengthy career in television. Includes commercials and promos.

Cataloging of this program has been made possible by the Bell Atlantic Foundation, 2000.
