JOB, THE: ANGER {FIRST SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a New York City police detective who alleviates the pressures of his job by drinking, smoking, and philandering. In this episode, Mike can't shake a cough so he decides to quit smoking, much to Pip's amazement. Then, Mike's anger from not smoking leads to him aggressively pulling a cabbie from his car. Meanwhile, Ruben is forced to shoot Miguel Alvarez, a knife-wielding perp in the rear end. Not surprisingly, three people videotaped Mike's tussle with the cab driver and now Lt. Williams is furious. The lieutenant gives Mike two choices: either take a two-week suspension or eight-week anger management classes. Then, Ruben's mother Yolanda arrives at the station, wanting her son to apologize to Miguel due to the fact that his mother is the choir director of her church. As Yolanda is a member of the choir, she wants to have the issue smoothed over. Meanwhile, Mike opts for anger management classes, where everyone recognizes him from the news and applaud how he treated the cabbie. Yolanda drags Ruben to the hospital, where he is forced to apologize to Miguel and instead gets in a fight with the man. Back at anger management, Mike and the others learn about "anger pie." Mike remains hostile to the teacher, Peter, who tries to explain why Mike can't control his anger. Later, Mike's antics cause the class to nearly break out in a fight. That evening with Toni, Mike discusses how he never cries. Toni is upset that Mike never discusses his feelings with her while he says that she is acting like his wife. The next day at class, Mike apologizes to everyone and admits that he cannot control his anger. However, he quickly tells the entire class that they "suck" and starts a brawl leading to all getting arrested. At the station, Mike essentially blackmails Peter into signing a form saying he finished the class. Finally, Ruben gets counseling from Mike about the lack of joy in the world, just as Mike returns to one of his chief joys: smoking. Includes commercials.
