Continued from T:76547.001. Tape two of two. One in this series on the performing arts. In this program -- one in a series of live broadcasts from the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City -- tenor Luciano Pavarotti performs with the New York City Opera Orchestra, conducted by Anton Guadagno. Pavarotti is joined by several other singers: sopranos Mariella Devia, Kallen Esperian, Cynthia Lawrence, and Shirley Verrett; tenor Pietro Ballo; baritones Thomas Hampson and Sherrill Milnes; and bass Paul Plishka. Following the intermission, Pavarotti sings "Pour me rapprocher de Marie" from Donizetti's "La Fille Du Regiment" ("The Daughter of the Regiment"). Next, the Quartet from Act III of Verdi's "Don Carlo" is performed by Esperian, Verrett, Milnes, and Plishka. The Duet from Act I of Donizetti's "Lucia De Lammermoor" is sung by Pavarotti and Devia. Esperian, Ballo and Plishka grace the stage once again and perform the Final Trio from Gounod's "Faust." Pavarotti and Hampson unite to perform the Duet from Act IV of Puccini's "La Boheme." Next, Verrett and Ballo sing the Finale Duet from Donizetti's "La Favorita." Another work from Donizetti, "Ecco il magico liquore" from "L'Elisir D'Amore" ("The Elixir of Love") is performed by Pavarotti and Plishka. Pavarotti and the rest of the cast take the stage to enjoy their standing ovation. To the audience's pleasure, an encore performance includes the following songs: Flowtow's "M'appari" from "Martha"; Di Capua's "O sole mio"; "Torna a Surriento" from De Curtis; Verdi's "Libiamo" (Lawrence and Pavarotti perform with the rest of the singers as chorus); and Puccini's "Nessun dorma" from "Turandot."
