Summary
Tape one of two. This program presents the Spanish
championship soccer game between Real Madrid and
Athletic Bilbao in Real's stadium, Santiago Bernabeu.
The programs open with a brief recognition of the
recent death of the president of Athletic Bilbao, Javier
Uria, as the captains of both teams leave flowers at a
memorial, and the stadium recognizes a moment of
silence before the match begins. In the first part,
Real Madrid appears a bit lackluster to the
commentators, but Ronaldo scores early, landing a goal
off a pass from Luis Figo to Roberto Carlos to him at
minute 8. As the first half progresses, Athletic Bilbao
makes a good press, with Asier Del Horno particularly
active. Near the end of the half, Athletic Bilbao's
Bittor Alkiza scores from outside the box. The
momentum appears to be with Athletic Bilbao, but at the
very end of the half, Ronaldo is fouled and Roberto
Carlos lands the free kick. This portion ends with the
