COMEBACK, THE: THE COMEBACK {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in the comedy series about actress Valerie Cherish's comeback to the world of sitcoms, as well as the reality show documenting her professional and personal progress. This episode introduces Valerie, taping a reality show -- also called "The Comeback" -- about her attempt to return to situation comedy for the show "Room and Bored." Valerie shows off her "I'm It!" wall at home, glorifying her former success on the early 1990s sitcom. Also, introduced are Valerie's loving if somewhat distracted husband Mark Berman, her housekeeper Esperanza, and her flamboyant hairdresser Mickey Deane. That day, Valerie attempts to get cast as the lead on "Room and Bored," hoping to beat out fellow "comebackers" Marilu Henner and Kim Fields, and shocked that she has to audition. Ultimately, Valerie is cast, excited to "get it." However, soon Valerie learns that she did not get the part she expected -- instead, finding herself playing a matronly role amongst three young and attractive actresses serving as her roommates on the show. Later, when things aren't working during set rehearsals, Valerie is recast -- in a part-time role no less -- as "Aunt Sassy," the upstairs aunt/landlord who dresses in frumpy, pastel running suits. At the end of the day, Valerie's heartfelt "personal video diary" is ruined by Mark's bathroom habits. The next day, as the pilot tapes, Valerie is chastised by the director for her egotistical behavior. Finally, after a car accident and a household water leak, Valerie gets the exciting news that the pilot has been picked up for the fall season.
