SIX DEGREES: A NEW LIGHT (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about six New York City strangers whose lives continue to cross with increasingly significant impact. In this episode, Mae goes searching for Margaret Hanssen before showing up at Carlos's office to wish herself a happy birthday. Whitney struggles with her stressful life as the wedding to Roy nears. Steven meets Anya, a photography assistant and a big fan of his work, who passes him her number so that he can help her with her career. Meanwhile, Laura prepares to give a speech in accepting a posthumous journalism award for David. Later, Laura receives a mysterious package containing a video and a note: "Your husband is no hero." Meanwhile, Damian gets a job driving business magnate Bill Huntzinger's daughter, Allegra, to school. At the same time, Carlos has to go to Queens to interview a client's ex-girlfriend, Maggie, in order to secure an alibi for him. Carlos struggles to get Maggie to sign the alibi form until Mae jumps in and helps. Later, Mae asks Carlos if he can locate Margaret for her. At the shoot for a vodka ad, Steven and Anya flirt before he asks her out on a date. Meanwhile, Laura goes to speak with David's old colleague, Charlie, to show him the mystery tape and try to figure out who sent it. That night, Steven and Anya go on a dinner date, with Whitney having warned the photographer not to sleep with the assistant. At the same time, Carlos finally takes Mae out for a nice birthday dinner, where he presents her with some information on Margaret. That night, Whitney calls Laura to talk about her problems with Roy, feeling that something is "not right."
The evening ends with Steven in Anya's messy apartment, drinking wine and pondering whether he should accept the advances of the tattooed twenty-five-year-old. The next day, Mae calls Eric and asks his feelings on whether Margaret -- their mother -- is actually still alive. At the same time, Allegra and her school friends make a mess of Damian's car, raising his ire. Meanwhile, Laura goes to visit David's cameraman, Craig, who gives her more information on the tape's contents. At another photo shoot, Anya acts icily toward Steven after being scorned by him the previous night. That afternoon, Bill yells at Damian for his earlier behavior toward Allegra. Damian refuses to take it, earning Bill's respect. Meanwhile, Laura tells Mae that she wishes to remember David as a doting father and not as the possibly immoral man on the videotape. That evening, Steven surprises Anya at her apartment, where he reveals that he finds her a very good photographer and doesn't want to sully her. Soon, the two are kissing. At the evening's award ceremony, Laura gives an acceptance speech where she talks about uncovering the truth about David. Meanwhile, Whitney meets Roy at a fancy restaurant, where a huge surprise party awaits her. After the awards ceremony, Laura decides to join the downtown party. There, Laura takes a seat at the bar and is hit on by Roy, who doesn't know that she's Whitney's friend. Finally, Mae comes upon another dead end in the search for her mother, though someone who remembers Margaret tells Mae that they have nearly identical looks. Includes commercials.
