
JACK BENNY BIRTHDAY SPECIAL, THE (TV)
Summary
A comedy/variety special hosted by and celebrating Jack Benny on his birthday. Highlights include the following: Lawrence Welk imitates Benny, Edward G. Robinson and Cary Grant; live penguins cross the stage and Benny gives them his famous long, silent look; Rouvaun sings, shattering Benny's glasses; and Dan Blocker and Don Wilson endure Benny's "fat" jokes. Benny and the cast satirize the western film genre with Lucille Ball as a dance-hall girl, Welk as the sheriff, Benny as a cowboy, and Blocker as a gunman. Other highlights include the following: Jerry Lewis appears; "Valentine Girl" Ann-Margret pops out of a cake; Dennis Day sings, accompanied by Benny on violin; and the penguins eat the birthday cake.
