ABC THEATRE: FRIENDLY FIRE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of irregularly scheduled dramas. Set in Iowa in 1969, the drama tells the story of Peg and Gene Mullen, who struggle to learn the truth about the death of their son, Mike, in Vietnam as a result of what the U.S. Army terms "friendly fire." The Army's reluctance to give the Mullens information sparks Peg's anger and activism. As the Mullens' activities start receiving press coverage, Peg becomes an anti-war celebrity and finds that her phone is being tapped.
The Mullens experience hometown resentment and writer C.D.B. Bryan begins writing an article about the family. He wants to write a book about the Mullens and after much work, he unravels the story of Mike's death. He finds the Mullens are angry when they finally learn the truth. Nevertheless they remain active by helping other parents of Vietnam War casualties. Includes commercials.
