Edward Gurney (R-Fla.) about pre-4/30/73 discussions with Nixon concerning the status of John Dean and the question of Ehrlichman and Haldeman resignations. He tells Sen. Joseph Montoya (D-N.M.) that it was evident that Nixon knew of the Watergate cover-up.
Ehrlichman tells Sen. Lowell Weicker (R-Conn.) there was no White House disenchantment with FBI Director L. Patrick Gray and that Gray enjoyed total support from the Nixon administration and they discuss White House attempts to set up attorney-client privileges among its employees to avoid testifying, particularly for Consultant Financier Herbert Kalmbach. Dash questions Ehrlichman about his recollections of meetings with John Dean, concerning which Dean previously testified.
Majority Counsel Sam Dash questions Ehrlichman about the White House's efforts to place the blame for the Watergate cover-up on John Dean. The committee recesses for lunch. Dash resumes questioning, focusing on White House relations with FBI Director L. Patrick Gray and on the hiring of Herbert Kalmbach as a fund-raiser for the Committee to Re-elect the President. They continue with a discussion of Jeb Stuart Magruder and his allegedly poor relationship with CREEP's Treasurer Hugh Sloan, Jr.
Majority Counsel Sam Dash questions Ehrlichman on points about which former White House Counsel John Dean previously testified, including the indictment of the Watergate burglars, activities of Dwight Chapin and CREEP's dirty trickster Donald Segretti, E. Howard Hunt's demands for money and clemency, White House mistrust of this committee, and efforts to put blame for Watergate cover-up on John Dean. Sen. Lowell Weicker (R-Conn.) asks Ehrlichman if he assumes his testimony to be in agreement with that of H.R. Haldeman.
