SENATE WATERGATE HEARINGS: JOHN DEAN TESTIMONY, DAY 3 {PART 1 OF 7} (TV)

Summary

Part one of live coverage of the third day of the appearance of former presidential counsel John Dean before the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities. In this portion, Dean reads memoranda detailing the concern of the Nixon White House over "political enemies" efforts to use the IRS against them. Sen. Edward Gurney (R-Fla.) questions Dean about G. Gordon Liddy's role in the Watergate break-in whether Dean should have told Nixon directly about Liddy's "hare-brained schemes." Gurney then asks Dean about the following topics: whether Dean was fired for unethical conduct from an earlier law firm job; the "302 files" Dean got from acting FBI Director L. Patrick Gray; and E. Howard Hunt's White House materials not turned over to the FBI. Commercials. Continues with T80:0616.
