JUKE BOX JURY {PETER POTTER'S JUKE BOX JURY} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of programs in which a "jury" of celebrity panelists guesses which new songs will be "hits or misses" on the popular music charts. "Judge" Peter Potter presides over the guest jury whose members this week are actor Mickey Rooney, entertainer Lillian Roth, film hero Bill Williams, and his wife, leading lady Barbara Hale. Songs discussed in this program include the following: "Cuba Liberace" (George Liberace and his Orchestra), and "Come Rain or Come Shine" (Jerry Lewis with Buddy Bregman and His Orchestra). Following discussion about his first "straight" recording for Decca Records, wailing comedian Jerry Lewis pays the panel a surprise visit, feigning animus towards his chum Rooney, the only panelist to pan his recording. As he exits the set, Lewis is playfully slapped on his rear end by host Potter, who bids the comic actor adieu by saying, "Thank you punkin." The final recording played and discussed is "If'n" (Jeannie Carson with Sonny Burke and His Orchestra). Includes commercials.

(Network affiliation varies: "Juke Box Jury" began as a local series in Los Angeles; it ran as a national series on ABC 1953-1954; then as a local series on KNXT in Los Angeles; moved to NBC Los Angeles affiliate KRCA in 1955; sydicated in 1958; taped telecasts aired on WNTA in Newark in 1959).
