An excerpt from one in this series of weekly programs featuring interviews with and performances by award-winning jazz stars. Saxophone player Coleman Hawkins (winner of the Esquire Award in every year since it was established) and clarinetist Pee Wee Russell (three-time winner of the Downbeat Award) are each featured in one number. Harry Sheppard and guitarist Dick Townsend perform a song by Charlie Seaver. Vocalist and ex-dancer Mae Barnes sings. Sonny Greer, who worked with Duke Ellington, stars in a drum number; others then join in for a jam session. Trumpeter Charlie Shavers is introduced. (Tape ends mid-program.)
