ST. ELSEWHERE: VANITY (TV)
Summary
One in this medical drama series revolving around the staff of St. Eligius hospital in Boston. In this episode, Dr. Cathy Martin returns to work after having been raped by Dr. Peter White. Dr. Mark Craig watches the tape of the documentary made about his work at the hospital and fears it will ruin his credibility as a surgeon. Dr. Robert Caldwell prepares to perform reconstructive breast surgery on nurse Helen Rosenthal. "Mr. Entertainment," the singing custodian, is giving some people major headaches, especially his supervisor, Mr. Moreland. Dr. Jack Morrison's brother has come for a visit and this makes Jack feel as if he and his son have no family around themselves. Jack is also planning to visit Peter in jail and many of the female doctors object to this gesture. While assisting in Helen's surgery, Dr. Victor Ehrlich is asked to leave because of some sexist remarks. Victor is also having a tough time dealing with the loss of Roberta, who left him after they were married. Cathy is struggling to concentrate on her work because the room she enters the most is where the rape occurred. People at the hospital think she was out with the flu but she finally tells a fellow female doctor about the rape after she can't put the key in the door of the room where the rapetook place. Mark confronts the documentary creator and threatens to sue him if the slanderous material is shown on the air. After being fired, Mr. Entertainment gets some counselling from Dr. Michael Ridley and feels as if he has found his true calling. After realizing what his true calling is, Mr. Entertainment goes to Moreland and gets his job back by promising to work and not sing anymore. On his way to clean some windows, he sings Cathy a song that cheers her up and makes her feel as if she can get on with her life. Commercials deleted.
