Christy Turlington Burns’ No Woman, No Cry
6:30 PM ET
Mr. Williams will be unable to join us tonight due to current news events.
Toshi Reagon will give a special musical performance.
In her directorial debut, fashion icon turned maternal health advocate Christy Turlington Burns illuminates the global tragedy of women dying needlessly in pregnancy and childbirth. In this informative documentary Burns relates how she had a complication during her first pregnancy and wanted to learn more about maternal health in other countries. She shares the powerful stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world: a remote Maasai tribe in Tanzania, a slum in Bangladesh, a post-abortion care ward in Guatemala, and a prenatal clinic in the United States.
The film serves as a launching pad for Turlington Burns’ campaign to improve the situation for women everywhere. Just days before the film becomes available to the public through a May 7 premiere on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, the director and founder of Every Mother Counts will discuss the film, the campaign, and what can be done to make a real change for the lives of mothers everywhere.
