Paley Dialogues: Breakfast

Esther Dyson, Chairman, EDventure Holdings

Oct 17, 2013
8:00 – 9:00 AM
New York

Esther Dyson (@edyson on Twitter) has a short attention span. She has spent her life in continuing education, first as a reporter for Forbes, then on Wall Street, and for 25 years as the editor of the newsletter "Release 1.0" and host of "PC Forum." More recently, she has also turned her focus to Russia and emerging markets in general, and to space travel. (She is a trained cosmonaut and hopes to retire on Mars - but not too soon!) As of last May, she is the founder of HICCup, the Health Initiative Coordinating Council. HICCup is a nonprofit focused on community health, which will bring media to bear in many ways. Dyson sits on the boards of Eventful, 23andMe, Meetup, Voxiva, Evernote, Joobili, ICON Aircraft, WPP, and Genomera.

Moderated by Steven Levy, Senior Writer, Wired, Author of Hackers and In the Plex
After bookstrapping his way into journalism in 1975, Steven Levy began writing about technology, the people who make it, and its effects on all of us in 1981, and has been pursuing this fascinating story ever since. After years of freelancing and writing books, he joined Newsweek in 1995, where he worked as senior editor, chief technology correspondent, and writer of a column called the Technologist. In late June 2008, Levy joined Wired Magazine as a full time writer. His most recent book, In the Plex, is a deep dive into Google. It has been widely praised as the definitive book on that company, and was chosen by Amazon as the best book of 2011 in the Business and Investing category. Levy attended Temple University and recieved an MA in literature at Penn State. Now he lives in New York City and western Massachusetts with his wife, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Teresa Carpenter – whose recent book is New York Diaries 1609-2009 – and their college-age son.
