The Next Big Thing in Media and the Innovation Economy

Tuesday, September 23, 2014
6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
New York

Long before “innovation” became a cliché, the concept of the “innovation economy” (popularized in the 1940s by the economist Joseph Schumpeter) established the importance of entrepreneurship and technology to driving economic growth. On Sept. 23, The Paley Center for Media, in partnership with Popular Mechanics, explored the dynamics of today’s innovation economy and the ways in which technology is enabling creators to form new networks, funding models, and markets for media businesses.

Belt Magazine
Belt Magazine publishes independent journalism about the Rust Belt. Online only, it launched in September 2013, and focuses on longform journalism, op-eds and first person essays of interest to the Rust Belt and beyond. Belt Publishing, founded in 2012, publishes anthologies by and for residents of often misrepresented cities. Both the digital and book publishing arms of Belt are committed to carefully edited, complex writing. In part because Belt is willing to sacrifice quantity for quality, we have quickly attracted smart, active members who are as invested in our success as they are in the future of the Rust Belt.
