Summary
This inventive adaptation of George Orwell's futuristic novel was one of the BBC's first large-scale productions. Conceived of by legendary BBC producer Rudolph Cartier, "1984" was the first program with a special effects budget. The production team made creative use of old equipment to represent the omnipresent eye of Big Brother and a scene with real rats caused a national outcry.
