MODERN FAMILY: FIZBO (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, the family members rush to the emergency room after an unknown catastrophe. In a flashback, Luke is unenthused about his birthday, as it falls near Thanksgiving and is often forgotten, so Phil and Claire decide to throw him an exciting party. Cam is shocked to learn that they do not plan to invite a clown, and Jay, who decides to gift his grandson with a crossbow, offers Manny some advice on wooing a young lady, Bianca, with comedy. Phil arranges for some reptile visitors and a climbing wall for the party, though Claire is sure that her arts-and-crafts table will also be a hit. Cam, a longtime "clowning" enthusiast, decides that he cannot resist dressing up as his fun-loving alter ego "Fizbo," telling a skeptical Mitchell that Luke is sure to be thrilled.

The party gets off to a successful start, though no one is very interested in Claire's comb-sheath-making table, and Manny, armed with some jokes from Jay, fails to make a splash with Bianca. Mitchell is impressed when Cam, in full clown mode, angrily confronts a rude man at the gas station and defends his honor, and Gloria urges a dejected Manny to simply be himself with Bianca. Haley is upset to see that the animal-trainer guest, "Jungle Tanya," seems to be hitting it off with Dylan, and when Mitchell and "Fizbo" arrive, Phil admits that one of his few fears in life is clowns. Haley distracts Tanya by releasing one of her poisonous scorpions, and Mitchell and Claire decide that they are both happy with their oddball "clownish" husbands. Cam, however, is terrified by the rogue scorpion and scares Phil, who bumps into Jay, causing him to puncture the moon bounce with the crossbow. Manny bravely plunges into the collapsing structure to "save" Bianca and wins her heart after all, though Luke ends up breaking his arm – after slipping on the spilled beads from Claire's craft table. He declares that his birthday was excellent, however, much to Phil and Claire's relief. Includes commercials and promos.
