WHO'S THE BOSS?: BOOZIN' BUDDIES (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about advertising executive Angela Bower and her live-in housekeeper -- former pro-baseball player Tony Micelli -- and their respective families. Sam goes out to a party where several of her friends start drinking beer, and she feels compelled to do so as well. She returns home quite inebriated and tries to hide this fact from Tony, but it isn't long before everyone in the house realizes what has happened. Tony is highly upset at this turn of events and is surprised to learn that Angela agrees with the harsh punishment he intends to give Sam. The next day, Tony's friends arrive to watch a televised boxing match. Tony speaks with Sam alone, expressing his extreme anger and disappointment with her. He claims that she doesn't need to drink alcohol to have a good time, but immediately undermines his own message by accepting a beer from one of his friends. He claims that he and his friends can drink because they are "responsible adults." In order to prove his point, he tries to get his friends not to drink alcohol during their visit, a request met with dismay. At first it seems to work, but a beer commercial on television whets their appetite and they resume drinking beer. The fight begins and Tony starts drinking a beer without realizing it. When Sam sees this she is extremely upset and retreats upstairs with her friends, who had arrived for a study session. Sam, enraged at Tony, vents her frustrations with her friends. One of them brings out a bottle of wine she took from her parents' liquor cabinet, claiming it will help ease Sam's hangover. They loosen the cork, but Tony comes in and they hide it. He apologizes for his hypocrisy and says he realizes he shouldn't lecture her on something he cannot prevent himself from doing. He explains that he still doesn't want her to drink because it's dangerous, and that ultimate peer pressure is meaningless as Sam has to make her own decisions about what's best for her. During his speech the wine bottle comes uncorked and he hears it; he leaves to let Sam make her own choice. This time Sam refuses the wine; Tony, listening outside the door, promptly seizes the bottle. Includes commercials.
