WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUEST: JACKIE GLEASON} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this episode, host John Daly presides over a panel which includes journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, playwright Steve Allen, actress Arlene Francis and publisher Bennett Cerf. Employing only yes-or-no questions, the panel first attempts to discover the "line" of Mary Flory of Pennsylvania, who makes cigars, and Kilgallen correctly guesses her profession. Next is Ruth Cooper from New Jersey, who drives a garbage truck, and the questions take a humorous turn as the panelists inquire about the edible nature of her "product," and eventually Kilgallen is right again. After donning blindfolds, the panelists then attempt to discover the identity of the mystery guest: actor Jackie Gleason. Despite his use of a phony voice, Francis succeeds in identifying him. Lastly, they question Jack Joyce of California, who trains camels, but time runs out before they are able to guess his profession, and the panelists bid the audience and one another good night. Includes commercials.
