HILL STREET BLUES: PASSAGE TO LIBYA (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas about the personal and professional lives of the officers of Hill Street Station, a precinct located in a run-down urban area.
In this episode, Jablonski tells the officers about "Operation Dirty Disco," the undercover operation regarding illegal weapons sales. Belker admits to Jablonski that he must quit the bowling team, wanting to keep his focus on his rekindled relationship with Tataglia. After being mugged and beaten, Ruby Brown asks the cops about a potential financial compensation from the department, fearful of losing out on her welfare check. Ed Greenglass and Gina Srignoli arrive for the undercover sting, and Furillo manages to convince reluctant IRS Agent Simpson to lift the impound on Gina's late husband's fortune and turn over her $10,000. Gina flirts with Garibaldi as she is fitted with a wire. As the cops pursue Ruby's mugger, Belker crashes into "one-man band" Sturgeon Muzel and hauls him into the precinct as well.
Hunter tries desperately to sell his RV, and Ruby admits that the thief, Louis Jessup, is actually her live-in boyfriend, who has beaten and stolen from her before. Fay encourages her to press charges against him, promising that this time, he will not be set free to do her further harm. Al DiPiano, the target of the sting, ends up shooting his troublemaking nephew outside of the lounge where the cops are disguised as waiters. Belker offers to help a jailed Sturgeon, though Sturgeon sadly admits that he has "nothing to go home to"; Fay is angered when Connie Chapman, who is representing Louis, talks to Ruby and suggests that he should not be given jail time. In court, a frightened Ruby changes her mind and does not sign the form. Though Fay claims to have witnessed Louis' violence against her, Renko is forced to testify to the contrary and Judge Wachtel releases Louis on bail.
Hunter allows a man and his son to take the TV for a test-drive, though he soon realizes that the car left behind as "collateral" is stolen and the man has no intention of returning. When the bust goes down, Al threatens Gina's life, but Goldblume rescues her and Al is arrested. Ramsey praises the team's work, and Garibaldi is crestfallen when Gina turns her attention to her "savior," Goldblume. Jablonski confronts Belker over his attempts to help Sturgeon, but Belker points out that Jablonski is strangely "jealous" now that Belker has repaired his life and reunited with Tataglia. He invites the sergeant over for dinner, though Jablonski declines. Sturgeonis released, and both Fay and Connie are upset to learn that Ruby has fatally stabbed Louis during another attack. Fay laments that she is a "naïve jerk" and gave Ruby false hope, but Furillo reassures her of her good intentions. Gina and Goldblume's dinner date turns romantic, and as Belker happily settles into his new life in Tataglia's home, he hears Sturgeon serenading them from outside. Commercials deleted.
