GEORGE LOPEZ: GEORGE JOINS THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHA-TCHA AND RAISES THE VIGIL-ANTE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, set in Los Angeles, in which comedian George Lopez plays family man "George Lopez." In this episode, George is irked when Angie declares that they have been appointed neighborhood watch "captains," particularly as he still has several unresolved squabbles with his neighbors, but he is suddenly spurred into action when Angie discovers that a registered sex offender, Chris Watson, has recently moved in nearby. Despite Angie's protests against taking rash action, George leads a "mob" of townsfolk to confront Watson, though they first confuse the address with that of the ultra-laid-back Mr. Gutierrez. Upon arriving at the right house, they are all stunned to find that Chris is an attractive woman and ex-teacher who served time in prison for a "mistake" with a teenage boy. Angie is outraged when George immediately drops the matter, pointing out that he is espousing a dangerous double standard about molestation, but George is sure that the teen boy "wanted it too."
Despite his doubts, George talks to Max and tells him to stay away from Chris' house, though Max too fails to see the harm in her actions. He complains that he has had no luck with women his own age, let alone older, and George pushes him to "be bold." Later, George and Angie are horrified to learn that Max has gone over to Chris' house and made his interest plain, though Chris assures them that she firmly turned him down, and George and Angie immediately blame one another for giving him a mixed message. George tells his son that he now recognizes the harm of female-on-male abuse, explaining that he would have been emotionally damaged by the encounter. He urges his son to wait for someone age-appropriate and "special," though Angie points out that he himself had little choice but to wait for the "right" person. Includes commercials and promos.
