HITLER'S DEATH (RADIO)

Summary

This excerpt from an American radio broadcast of May 1, 1945, investigates a report that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler is dead. Reporting from NBC in New York, Jack Costello plays an earlier report broadcast from Stockholm, Sweden, about German Admiral Karl Doenitz's propagandist speech from the Berlin Reichstag. In Doenitz's speech, Hitler is eulogized as a fallen hero whose memory will continue to inspire German forces, but Costello quickly points out that military reports from Berlin indicate a total collapse of German defenses inside Berlin itself. The transmission is cut off soon after the mention of Soviet May Day celebrations in Berlin.
