STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: REDEMPTION, PART 1 {FOURTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

Part one of two. The fourth season finale in this series of science fiction programs about the voyages of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 24th century. This sequel to the original "Star Trek" series is set approximately 85 years after the journeys of the first Enterprise crew. In the final episode of the fourth season, Lt. Worf tries to restore his family honor when the powerful and corrupt Duras family leads a faction against Gowron, the newly designated leader of the Klingon High Council, thus bringing the Klingon Empire to the verge of civil war. When Capt. Picard arrives in the Klingon homeworld to oversee Gowron's installation as the new leader, Gowron asks the Enterprise to help diffuse the plot that Duras's powerful sisters, Lursa and B'Etor, are planning. The two sisters challenge Gowron's leadership with a surprise announcement to the High Council that Duras's illegitimate son, Toral, is the true leader. Picard remains determined that no Starfleet officer intervene in this struggle, despite the probability that the Duras family is being supported by Romulans. Realizing that Gowron is vulnerable, Worf enlists the aid of his brother, Kurn, to restore their family honor by helping Gowron. Despite the fact that he was raised by humans, Worf feels the influence of his Klingon roots as the civil war approaches, and must decide whether his loyalties are with Starfleet or the Klingons.
