MYSTERY!: INSPECTOR MORSE, SERIES 3: SETTLING OF THE SUN, {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this mystery anthology series. Host Diana Rigg introduces this program, centered around the life of an ale-drinking British police inspector named Morse, who cannot stand the sight of blood. In part one of this two-part mystery, Inspector Morse visits a friend, Dr. Jane Robson, who is running an international college summer session, and her father. While Morse and Robson wander off on their own for a short while, Robson's father, who had been sleeping in a wheelchair, awakens and has flashbacks of World War II, which cause him to collapse and die. Later Morse attends the welcoming dinner for the students of Dr. Robson's summer session. He is there to announce the winner of a crossword-puzzle contest. The award goes to a German student named Kurt Friedman. Soon after the award is given out, a Japanese student, who had suddenly excused himself from the meal, is found dead in his room. He was murdered and left with stigmatic markings. Morse and his right-hand man, Detective Sergeant Lewis, investigate the crime. Morse is surprised to see that the head of the college, Sir Wilfred Mulryne, is not concerned about the gruesome death of one of his students and that Friedman knows little about Germany for a man who is supposed to be a native of the country. Morse is later disturbed to learn that the Japanese student may have been involved with drugs since this means Morse must work side by side with Chief Superintendent Dewar, whom he despises.
