STEPHEN KING'S THE STAND: PART 3: THE BETRAYAL (TV)

Summary

Part three in this four-part drama based on Stephen King's best-selling novel about a deadly plague that escapes from a U.S. government lab, leaving only a chosen few survivors to take a stand against the forces of evil. In part three, immune survivors from around the country continue to make their way to Boulder, and Harold's worst fears are realized when a pregnant Fran begins a relationship with Stu. As more of Flagg's people gather in Las Vegas, Stu, Fran, Harold, and Glen arrive in Boulder, where Mother Abigail arranges a town meeting. An ad-hoc committee is selected to give the newly formed community direction, which they desperately need after Mother Abigail leaves them to try to figure out her role in God's plan. At its first meeting, the committee decides to send three spies west to find out what Flagg is up to. Judge Farris, Tom (who is given instructions by the committee while hypnotized) and Dayna Jurgens are chosen as scouts, unknown to one another. Nadine, who has enough of Flagg's power in her to scare Mother Abigail, tries to get back together with Larry, who informs her it's too late because he's married to Lucy. Flagg instructs Nadine to seduce Harold and, playing upon his resentment of Stu and Fran's newfound love, she convinces him that they should go to Las Vegas. Before they leave, Flagg inspires Harold to blow up the next committee meeting. Nick, who has been a strong leader up until now, dies in the explosion. Mother Abigail returns and lives only long enough to tell the committee that Stu must lead now, and that he, Larry, Harold and Glen must go to Las Vegas on foot and take a stand against Flagg. Includes commercials, promos, a public service announcement, and an "ABC News Brief." This program is closed-captioned.
