BARBARA WALTERS PRESENTS THE TEN MOST FASCINATING PEOPLE OF 2005 (TV)
Summary
One in this occasional series of interview specials, hosted by Barbara Walters. This program looks at the ten most fascinating people of the year 2005, who are listed as follows: child star Dakota Fanning; rapper Kanye West; Michael Jackson's lawyer, Tom Mesereau; recently retired Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong; comedian and actor Jamie Foxx; Beth Holloway Twitty, mother of missing eighteen-year-old Natalee Holloway; actress Teri Hatcher; Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; and movie star Tom Cruise. Highlights include: Fanning detailing being called a mature "old soul" and her parents' efforts to help her live a "normal" life; West "spitting a rap" for Walters and discussing how he sounded off on George W. Bush's policies toward African-Americans during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina; Mesereau describing Jackson's trial as being a "disgrace," and why he wears his hair long; Armstrong talking about his unique body make-up and his struggle against testicular cancer; Armstrong's girlfriend Sheryl Crow joining him to discuss their relationship; Foxx discussing his amazing year, the best and worst aspects of winning an Oscar, and whether he feels like he's finally "made it"; Holloway talking about investigating her daughter's disappearance in Aruba, whether she thinks her daughter is dead, and if she'll ever give up searching; Hatcher talking about her career revival with "Desperate Housewives" and what it was like to be "a has-been"; Rice (not interviewed) being described as, quite possibly, the most powerful woman in the world, despite her critics, and whether she has presidential ambitions; and Cruise -- on break from shooting "Mission: Impossible III" -- detailing how he wants to thrill audiences with exciting movies as well as explaining his "wacky" behavior over the past year and his relationship with Katie Holmes. Finally, Walters announces the pick for the most fascinating person of 2005: Camilla Parker Bowles, the new Duchess of Cornwall (not interviewed). Walters discusses the reasons for picking Bowles and details Bowles' lengthy history with Prince Charles. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
