STAR-SPANGLED REVUE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere of one in this limited series of comedy/variety programs hosted by Bob Hope. Hope, in his television debut, opens with a monologue commenting on television's progress. Highlights include the following: Maurice Rocco, dubbed "the world's only stand-up boogie-woogie pianist," plays the "St. Louis Blues"; Hope chats with Douglas Fairbanks (Jr.), Beatrice Lillie, and Carl Reiner in the "Two Dozen Double Damask Dinner Napkins" sketch; Hope ribs NBC; Dinah Shore sings "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" and, with Hope, "Baby, It's Cold Outside;" and Lillie impersonates a Moulin Rouge chanteuse. Other highlights include Hope and Hal Le Roy in a soft-shoe dance; Lillie, Hope, Reiner, and Fairbanks in a British western sketch titled "Drag-Along Cavendish"; and the Boys Choir of Mexico City in a performance of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus." The program closes with Hope, Lillie, Shore, and Fairbanks singing "Easter Parade." Includes commercials.
