STEVE ALLEN SHOW, THE {LOU COSTELLO, GINGER ROGERS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy/variety programs hosted by Steve Allen. This program begins with a cold opening where Allen plays a correspondent from the scene of a wild party at Madison Square Garden. Other highlights include the following: the vocal group The Hi-Lo's sing "A Shine on Your Shoes" and "Laura"; in a sketch called "The House of the Monster," Lou Costello, Don Knotts, and Tom Poston play frightened treasure-seekers in a haunted house; the "Man in the Street" interview sketch features "average citizens" being questioned about how they would entertain visiting royalty; and in a comedy bit, Allen touts the virtues of "Blintz" automobiles. Also, Allen plays piano for Ginger Rogers as she parodies the singing styles of various types of female vocalists. The show concludes with a basketball contest between the Harlem Globetrotters and the "Allen All-Stars." Includes commercials and promos.

("The Steve Allen Show" was telecast on NBC from 1956-1959. Retitled "The Steve Allen Plymouth Show," it ran on NBC from 1959-1960.)
