Summary
In this special, the American Film Institute salutes director John Huston. Highlights in this part include clips from the films "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (1948), "The Misfits" (1961), "Moulin Rouge" (1952), "Beat the Devil" (1954), "The African Queen" (1951), "Moby Dick" (1956), "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950), "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison" (1957), "Reflections in a Golden Eye" (1967), "The Night of the Iguana" (1964), and "The Battle of San Pietro" (documentary) (1944). Lauren Bacall, Orson Welles, Ava Gardner, and Robert Mitchum, and Paul Newman pay tribute to Huston; and Sam Jaffe and Bill Mauldin reminisce about working with him.
Further highlights include clips from the films "Victory" (1981), "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (1948), "The Red Badge of Courage" (1951), "Chinatown" (1974), and "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975). In other highlights, Huston's daughter, actress Anjelica Huston, introduces guests Zsa Zsa Gabor, Aileen Quinn, Robert Blake, and Dudley Moore, among others. Michael Caine and producer Sam Spiegel reminisce about working with Huston; Jack Nicholson, Jeff Bridges, Stacy Keach, James Mason, Max Von Sydow, writer Richard Brooks ("Key Largo"), producer Ray Stark, soccer star Pelé, and others pay tribute to Huston; Charlton Heston, president of the AFI Board of Trustees, and Jean Firstenberg, director of the AFI, describe the work done by the institute; and George Stevens, Jr., chairman of the AFI, presents the Life Achievement Award to Huston, who delivers an acceptance speech.
