GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE ALLEN SHOW, THE: GRACIE'S CHECKING ACCOUNT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring the husband-and-wife team of George Burns and Gracie Allen as themselves. As the star of a television comedy series, the cigar-smoking Burns plays straight man to dizzy wife Gracie Allen, who invariably embroils him -- and their neighbors Blanche and Harry Morton -- in her zany domestic schemes. Burns also appears as commentator on the action, confiding philosophically to the audience about Gracie's madcap intrigues and predicting their outcome. In this episode, George must tell Gracie that he has to close her checking account after the bank manager requests that Gracie never show up at his bank again. Also in this episode, Gracie's inability to do or say anything sensible is displayed in a variety of ways including the following: she makes Harry self-conscious as she watches him sign letters; she explains how she caused six people to give up their places in front of her on line at a store; and she gets the wrong idea when a police officer follows her home. Throughout the show advertisements for Carnation products are worked into the sketches. Includes commercials.
