MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., THE {THE MAN FROM UNCLE}: THE GAZEBO IN THE MAZE AFFAIR (TV)

Summary

One in this series of tongue-in-cheek spy dramas about superagents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. In this episode, Illya is drugged and kidnapped by Squire Emory Partridge. Partridge's plan then is to lure Solo to his palace and seek revenge on the agents for something that happened many years before. At headquarters, Solo receives a pear tree, and one of its birds -- a partridge -- has a recorded message for him explaining the whereabouts of Illya. Solo figures out who sent this gift and remembers Partridge from the event that occurred in the past. Meanwhile, Partridge takes Illya on a tour of the grounds, showing him the shrubbery-style maze and a gazebo that has a hidden passageway. Through the passageway, Partridge brings Illya to a dungeon-like torture chamber and chains him up. Solo travels to London to rescue Illya, but no one in town will tell him where Partridge's house is. Finally, Peggy Durrance, who works for Partridge, talks to Solo and takes him to find Illya. She tells him about the maze and all the secret passages throughout the house. Partridge takes Solo prisoner also, and the only way the two agents can get out of the dungeon is to call Waverly and have him come to London to rescue them. Solo refuses to make the call, and when Partridge tells his wife Edith to persuade Solo to rethink his decision, she takes matters into her own hands. Peggy tries to help Solo and Illya, but Partridge captures her also. Finally, Solo agrees to make the call and Waverly agrees to be there the next day. In a surprise turn of events, Illya and Solo trick Edith into letting them go, and she is ecstatic about the idea. Now Illya, Solo, and Peggy are now on their own and they must attempt to make it out of the maze alive. Commercials deleted.
